Roissy Workshops
History
About Roissy Workshops
Roissy Workshops has its roots in the
late '80s springing from a small group of like minded individuals
who had become increasingly disillusioned with the all too often
fruitless search for novel and interesting items to add that
extra touch to their hedonistic pursuits.
At first it was intended to cater only
to the requirements of this small, exclusive circle, however
as time progressed, interest grew and we began to be approached
by other people in the scene who were seeking items made to their
own specification. As a manufacturer of bespoke items we have
a exclusive clientele who appreciate a high quality, reliable
service which is both friendly and highly discreet.
Our principle customers are the 'professional
persons' thus we mainly design, build and fit dungeons/playrooms
although we are happy to assist personal customers with smaller
commissions. All of our designs are 'industrial strength', made
to stand up to continual usage and are individually designed
and finished to the customer's requirements. Over recent years
we have also built a healthy European clientele.
The Evolution of 'Roissy
on the Road'
In 1991 we were approached by the organizers
of a new club who were desperate to borrow some equipment for
a fetish night. As it happened we had a few basic prototype pieces
of equipment (due for 'recycling') around and were able to help.
Several months passed, other clubs began to spring up and requests
to 'borrow' our 'equipment' began to be a regular feature.
Unfortunately the faithful old prototypes
were just that and not designed for the rigors of the 'road'
thus we were obliged to inform the clubs that for safety reasons
we could no longer lend the stuff out. The result of this news
was a series of phone calls from, and meetings with Organisers
who were looking at ways to equip their events. It rapidly became
apparent that most of the 'hand to mouth' Northern club operations
at that time could neither afford to buy, store nor transport
their own gear - most of the events being run by 'enthusiasts'
with limited resources.
Our proposed solution to this problem
was for Roissy Workshops to produce a range of transportable
playroom furniture substantial enough to take the abuses of 'touring',
being unloaded, erected, dismantled and reloaded time and again
without developing shakes, wobbles and other instability problems.
We also undertook to supply a construction team and the storage/transport/maintenance
of the gear.
This project has proved highly successful
with such clubs as Club Lash (Manchester), Hellfire (Manchester),
Coliseum (Liverpool), Moonman's Dream, the original Bridge (Birmingham),
Republique (Stoke-on-Trent) all making use of our services in
recent years. We have assisted other clubs in major Northern/
Midland towns and cities such as Leeds, Sheffield, Hull, Nottingham,
etc. We have also supplied equipment to Violate (Glasgow), Carnival
of Souls (Derby) and even appeared at Torture Garden (London).
Roissy Workshops has a commitment to HGM (Healthy Gay Manchester)
and has contributed its services to several AIDS benefits run
by Over The Edge promotions. We have also supported both SM Pride's
and the Sex Maniacs Ball's fundraising efforts by donating our
services.
1997 - 2001 P.T. Barnham
meets the Marquis DeSade
The rapid spread of Fetish Clubs in
the Midlands and North meant that we at Roissy Workshops had
to take a serious look at what we provided and how we provided
it. The equipment was relatively easy, a matter of design and
the development of special fixing systems to enable the gear
to be put up and taken down quickly, without appreciable wear
on the joints, whilst still retaining its 'character' as it were.
The Roissy staff have a varied experience
of different types of 'play' and have staged many demonstrations
of technique covering such subjects as bondage (western and oriental),
electroplay (we have an extensive range of electrostimulation
devices - violet wands, adapted faradic massagers, Westinghouse
and Bowden coils, zap boxes, electric hands, TENs units, radio
control devices), suspension (including inverted) waxing, fireplay
as well as the use of the more traditional implements such as
crops, floggers, canes etc. During an event we will also provide
instruction in the use of equipment should it be required.
It has become a standing joke within
the team that our role falls somewhere within a triangle at the
points of which stand Isombard Kingdom Brunel, The Marquis DeSade
and Hi De Hi. We have been described as the largest travelling
BDSM fairground in Europe ... but we cannot comment on the validity
of that statement.
We now operate a complete mobile dungeon/playroom
(UK) hire service for clubs and private parties. It comes with
its own crew, ambient lighting, aromatics and sound system -
and of course, very solid, good quality gear and a lot of it!.
At all events a full staff is available to demonstrate the uses
of the equipment and provide advice and assistance.
In addition to the dungeon Roissy Workshops
also provide entertainment ranging from displays and demonstrations
to full stage shows. These vary from the practical to the fantastic,
from simple scenes and instruction to complex and diabolical
spectaculars, all of course tailored to the event and audience.
You can find the Roissy equipment and
the team at a number of monthly clubs including Rapture and Revelations
in the Midlands, Diversity in Chester, Club Lash in Manchester
and a range of other 'occasional' events.
